The marine industry, like other energy-dependent businesses, is being challenged to meet stockholder expectations in the face of rising bunker prices, which are unlikely to decline. Bunker cost contribute significant portion on operational cost. Many technologies have attempted to increase marine fuel efficiencies or monitoring its fuel consumption. Many fleet operators/charterers/owner have difficulty controlling bunker costs because existing conventional methods for measuring usage are tend to be inaccurate. Additionally, manually estimating fuel consumption does nothing to support the evaluation of current vessel operations or to gauge the effectiveness of fuel saving strategies, methods, or technologies. POINTREK - FM (FUEL MONITORING) series, is the Marine Fuel Management system that specifically identifies operating inefficiencies on a vessel or across a fleet. POINTREK - FM series gathers a broad range of fuel related information and presents it to the fleet owner management via web base application, POINTREK - FM series is providing satellite data connections for a marine fuel-management system that enables ship management/operators to monitor and optimize fuel usage of their vessels. POINTREK developed the Fuel vessel monitoring system. This POINTREK FM series uses ultrasound flow sensors to collect information on ships' fuel consumption. Vessel and fuel information is transmitted through the Inmarsat satellite network to a shore-based Web service where it is permanently stored and can be viewed via a Web browser. With this Service, vessel operators don't have to worry about ships running out of the designated operation area. Marine operators can know for certain where the vessel and the quantity of fuel consumed per voyage.
